Obesity among elderly is an important health-related problem worldwide, to date there is controversy regarding the adverse impact of weight loss among elderly women.

Summary

Introduction

Obese elderly women have low physical functioning, energy, and vitality [1]. There is a global concern regarding management of obesity [3]. Overweight and obesity prevalence has increased significantly over the last 30 years, with overweight and obesity affecting 1.5 billion adults globally [4]. About three million people die every year of obesity-related diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome [5]. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease increased in parallel to prevalence of obesity [6,7]. Obese subjects usually suffer from depression, reduced self-esteem, mobility/functional disability and general health problems [8].
