Abstract

DC link filter capacitors used in electric drives for automotive applications are most of the time aluminum electrolytic capacitors. However their high sensitivity to temperature results in very weak components. So, a lot of studies have been made in order to estimate their ageing. This paper deals with ageing analysis on the basis of an electrical model taking into account a diffusion phenomenon inside the anode of the capacitor. This accurate model, correlated to the temperature, allows comparing the behaviour of capacitors along their lifespan under constant and cycling thermal stress.
