Petroleum industrial activities have the potential to alter soil physical and chemical properties through various contamination mechanisms and operational processes. This research aimed to evaluate the impact of PT Pertamina EP Cepu petroleum industrial activities on basic physical and chemical soil properties in areas surrounding operations. The study was conducted from October to November 2025 using a descriptive survey approach with purposive sampling method. Soil samples were collected at 0-20 cm depth from 12 sampling points located within a ± 200-meter radius in four cardinal directions (North, East, South, and West) from the operational center. Physical properties analyzed included soil texture, bulk density, and porosity, while chemical properties included pH, C-Organic, total N, available P, exchangeable K, and electrical conductivity (EC). Data analysis was performed descriptively by comparing laboratory measurement results with soil property assessment criteria established by Balai Penelitian Tanah to categorize each parameter and identify soil quality degradation levels in the research area. The results showed that soil in the research area had clay texture (67% clay fraction), high bulk density (1.47 ± 0.21 g/cm³), moderate porosity (44.5%), neutral pH (6.7 ± 0.2), very low C-Organic (0.99 ± 0.07%) and total N (0.07 ± 0.01%), high available P (28.64 ± 2.22 mg/kg) and exchangeable K (0.94 cmol(+)/kg), and moderately high EC (3.9 dS/m). These findings indicate that petroleum operational activities have caused soil quality degradation, particularly through soil compaction and reduction in organic matter content. Appropriate soil management interventions, including organic matter addition, traffic management, and contamination remediation, are essential to restore and maintain soil quality in petroleum operational areas.

  • Rendy Rusady + 1 more

Power plants are equipment used to generate electricity by converting an energy into electrical energy. In power plants, it is necessary to pay attention to the reliability of the generating system in meeting the needs of a load. The reliability of the generating system can be described by the plant reliability index. To pay attention to the reliability of the generating system, an analysis is needed that is used to evaluate the reliability index of the plant, one of which is Loss of Load Probability (LOLP). This study presents the calculation of the LOLP value at the PT Pertamina EP Bunyu PLTMG in 2022. In calculating the LOLP value, namely by using Microsoft Exel and Matrix laboratory simulation. PT Pertamina EP Bunyu PLTMG has 4 generating units with each capacity having a power of 1000 KW. The duration of disruption of the generating unit affects the Forced Outage Rate (FOR) value which will be used to find the probability of each combination of generating units. From this probability value, the LOLP value is obtained. At the PT Pertamina EP Bunyu PLTMG, the LOLP value is 0.00005579646% with an outage probability of 0.0203657079 days/year. While the standard set by PT PLN (Persero) in the 2018-2027 PLN RUPTL of LOLP is smaller than 0.274% or equivalent to a probability of outage of 1 day / year, it can be said that the reliability index of the power plant at PT Pertamina EP Bunyu PLTMG in 2022 is in the reliable category.

Each soil has unique nature of the characteristics and its properties are beyond the control of the designer. Since the soil parameters varies from site to site or location to location, thus selecting the reliable properties of soil is always a challenge for the Geotechnical Engineers. One of the option is intense soil investigations. However, there are various soil properties whose determination is time consuming and expansive. Geotechnical Engineer usually tries to develop mathematical equations specific to a particular soil type. However, a mathematical formula that is more reliable for the type of soil in which the link is genuine. In the light of above discussion, index and chemical properties were not investigated in most of the areas of Hyderabad region. Also correlation between chemical and index properties were not investigated. Correlation between chemical and index properties were not well understood. Thus it is important to develop the appropriate mathematical equations to be able to access the local area. The aim of this study is to determine index and chemical properties of soil selected from different locations of Hyderabad Region and also develop correlation between chemical and index properties of soils of Hyderabad region. Regression analysis have been carried out between Index and chemical properties. Such correlations may be of use to geotechnical engineers, in preliminary estimates of index and chemical properties of soils Hyderabad region and perhaps reduce testing requirements. The data obtained from independent laboratory tests on soils sourced from several locations in Hyderabad region were subjected to regression analysis after the samples had been grouped in A-4, A-6, and A-7-6 using AASHTO classification system. The derived Regression equations can be used to estimate the index and chemical properties of soils in Hyderabad region.
