Impact of Paradox Leader Behavior on Subordinate Performance through Openness to Experience and Learning Goals Orientation

In 2019, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) announced the clustering of higher education institutions through the Kemdikbud website portal (http://klasterisasi-pt.kemendikbud.go.id). Based on the clustering results, Telkom University ranked 14th nationally and 1st as the best private university in Indonesia. In 2020, Kemdikbud again announced the clustering of higher education institutions with Telkom University ranking 17th nationally and still 1st as the best private university in Indonesia. Telkom University then used this result as the tagline ‘The Best Private University in Indonesia’ for institutional branding. Up to now, Telkom University continues to use the tagline ‘The Best Private University in Indonesia’. To maintain this branding, Telkom University implements a branding strategy through the formation of public opinion. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method and data collection through in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that Telkom University faces challenges in maintaining consistent branding amidst diverse public opinions. This makes it difficult to create a widely accepted brand image. To strengthen its claim as 'The Best Private University in Indonesia,' Telkom University improves transparency and engages in better interactions through social media while responding to constructive criticism. The branding claimed by Telkom University has received various responses, both positive and critical, indicating the need for further evaluation of the claim. Telkom University uses visual communication strategies and promotional activities that emphasize the university’s achievements to support its branding as ‘The Best Private University in Indonesia’.

The growth of the number of universities in Indonesia in the last few years has experienced very rapid progress. Kemenristekdikti data for 2017 is 3,276 universities (3,154 PTS and 122 PTN) in Indonesia with 555 university details (17.6%), 78 institutes (2.5%), 1,431 Sekolah Tinggi (45.4%), 1,022 Academy (32.4 %) and Polytechnic 190 (6.0%). A large number of private universities (PTS) in Indonesia is very influential for prospective students in taking the decision to choose a college to continue their studies. Decision Support Systems are popular tools that help decision making within an organization [1]. Criteria Decision Making (MCDM), namely AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process). AHP is quite effective in simplifying and speeding up the decision making the process by solving the problem into its parts [2]. Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) and Analytic Hierarchy Process can be applied in various fields. According to [3], marketing mix (Place, Product, Promotion, Price, People, Process and Physical Evidence) simultaneously influences the decision to elect private universities in Indonesia. Based on data processing and analysis that has been carried out in the previous section, it can be concluded that the chosen college is college a based on the criteria of place, price, product, people, promotion, process and physical evidence with a value of 0.379.

Students’ writing ability has become an essential element for student success and may be influenced by the student and teachers skills; therefore, the subject has garnered the attention of regulators and researchers alike. Thus, the current research investigates the role of student critical thinking skills and teachers’ intellectual skills on students’ writing ability across private universities in Indonesia. The researchers also investigate the mediating impact of student learning among the nexus of student critical thinking skills, teachers’ intellectual skills and student writing ability in the context of private universities in Indonesia. The present study has used primary data collection methods and employs the survey questionnaires for data collection. The current research also use the primary data analysis tools such as smart-PLS to test the study hypotheses as well as the items’ validity and reliability. The results reveal that student critical thinking skills and teachers’ intellectual skills have a positive influence on student writing ability in private universities in Indonesia. The results also show that student learning significantly mediates between the association of student critical thinking skills, teachers’ intellectual skills and student writing ability of private universities in Indonesia. This study is meaningful for future researchers who want to investigate this area in a more in-depth manner in the future and provides the guideline to the regulating and developing authorities while formulting policies related to students’ writing ability in the universities of Indonesia.

The competition among private universities in Indonesia is intensifying, requiring institutions to establish a sustainable competitive advantage through the right strategies, strong vision and mission, and effective use of information technology. This study analyzes the influence of strategy, vision and mission, university rankings, and information technology on the sustainable competitive advantage of private universities. It also examines the moderating role of information technology in strengthening these relationships. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive and causal design, data were collected from 204 respondents across private universities in Indonesia via a questionnaire. Analysis using Partial Least Squares (PLS) and SmartPLS software reveals that strategy, vision and mission, university rankings, and information technology significantly impact sustainable competitive advantage. Furthermore, information technology strengthens the influence of strategy, vision, and mission but does not moderate the relationship between university rankings and competitive advantage. These findings indicate that while information technology supports strategic implementation and the achievement of institutional vision and mission, its direct role in enhancing university rankings is limited. The study emphasizes the importance of formulating innovative, sustainable strategies and integrating information technology effectively to maintain competitiveness. Practical implications include the necessity of resource planning and investment in technology to achieve strategic objectives. This study contributes to the literature by exploring the moderating role of information technology in private universities, providing valuable insights for managers on leveraging technology to navigate competitive challenges and sustain growth.

This study investigated students' difficulties in reading academic texts at a private university in Indonesia. This study aims to investigate students' difficulties in reading academic texts along with its causes, constructive solutions, and effectual recommendation. This study applied qualitative research method specifically case study design. Data were obtained from observation and interview. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The participants of this study were fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program. This study revealed students' difficulties in reading academic text at a private university in Indonesia were: limited vocabulary; unfamiliarity of academic words, readability problem; complexity of academic text structure, lack of reading fluency; difficulty of understanding function word, and inadequate use of reading strategies; insufficient use of skimming and scanning. It was further investigated the students' difficulties in reading academic texts were significantly caused by limited vocabulary knowledge, specifically limited academic vocabulary mastery. The findings derived from this study underscore the critical need to address students' difficulties in academic reading. This study emphasized the importance of equipping students with academic vocabularies lesson or assistance and implementation of metacognitive-based reading strategies to overcome students’ difficulties in reading academic text for better and successful academic reading skill and achievement.

Ethical behavior is the attitude and actions of a person who adheres to commonly accepted social norms regarding good, proper, beneficial, and non-harmful activities. This study aims to examine the influence of emotional, intellectual, and spiritual intelligence on the ethical behavior of educator accountants at private universities in Indonesia, moderated by locus of control. This study’s population comprised all educator accountants who taught at nine private universities in Indonesia. At the same time, the sample size in this study was 196 accountant educators. The samples were educator accountants who had worked for at least one year. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and interviews (WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook), while the data analysis used was Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with data processing using PLS software. The findings revealed that accountant educators’ ethical behavior is influenced by their emotional (p = 0.016), intellectual (p = 0.030), and spiritual intelligence (p = 0.039). The locus of control can moderate the influence of emotional intelligence on ethical behavior. However, it cannot moderate the effect of intellectual and spiritual intelligence on educator accountants’ ethical behavior.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of Lean Six Sigma mediated by Good University Governance to the Performance of 26 Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah private universities in Indonesia. Methodology/approach – The methodology using quantitative approach with Structural Equation Model (SEM) of the AMOS analysis. The study having samples of 245 respondents filling the online questionnaires from 26 private universities spread across all islands in Indonesia. Findings – Based on the results of the study, it is studied that both directly and indirectly Lean Six Sigma mediated by Good University Governance deeply positive and significant impacted to the performance of private universities in Indonesia. The practical implications of this study such as Six Sigma variables have a positive effect on the performance of 26 Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah private universities in Indonesia, although there are areas that need improvement, especially in the campus physical arrangement and infrastructure. Novelty/value – The value of this study such as giving contribution to the theoretical and its regulations implementation of Lean Six Sigma and Good University to support the university performance.

The goals of this study are want to explore the effect of the e-servicescape on private university’s website towards student’s intention to use the service. This study also wants to know about how does the effect of the e-servicescape towards perceived private university’s service quality, and how does the perceived private university’s service quality effect towards student’s intention to use that service. This study is explanatory research which is using a quantitative approach. A survey using a questionnaire was conducted to collect the data. Moreover, the data of this study was measure in 5 rates Likert’s scale and then analyzed using Partial Least Square Method with SmartPLS3 software. The population of this study are the students of a private university in Indonesia. The sample of this study is 165 students of a private university in Indonesia. Purposive sampling technique is used by criteria as follow, the respondent must be private university students and have been seen and looking about their university’s website when still school leavers back then. The result of this study is that there is a significant influence of the e-servicescape to the perceived service quality. Furthermore, perceived service quality also found to have a significant influence on the student’s intention to use the private university service. This study also found that e-servicescape only is not enough to influence the student’s intention to use the private university service, and must be mediated by perceived service quality.

The number of private universities in Indonesia in 2020 is 3,044 private universities, in East Java 328 private universities and in Madura 30 private universities. The number of private universities in Indonesia causes intense competition. Colleges should strive to maintain and improve performance in order to ensure their activities. Therefore, it is necessary to do or group private universities based on the performance of human resources and students to encourage these universities to improve their performance. The grouping of private universities is carried out using the k-clustering method which groups data into several clusters based on data groups which are. The results of this study, the grouping of private universities in Madura into 3 clusters, namely: Cluster 1 there are 4 private universities, Cluster 2 there are 7 private universities, and Cluster 3 there are 19 private universities.

Scientific publications on reputable international journals are very important outcomes of research. Universities that have a high number of scientific publications have high competitiveness in a country. The position of Indonesian publications in terms of numbers has outperformed Singapore and Thailand, but the level of citations to Indonesian journals remains low. So that this research must be carried out immediately which aims to produce a study of: the influence of the climate of research and institutional support in increasing the quantity and quality of scientific publications of private universities in Indonesia. The novelty in this study is that the number of scientific publications will increase if the Research Climate at the university is conducive and strong institutional support. The method used in this study uses quantitative research using Structural Equation Modeling analysis tools. The unit of analysis in this study is a private university in Indonesia. The targeted results are an increase in the quantity and quality of Indonesian scientific publications.

This study aims to see the effectiveness of link and match policies by looking at the workplaces of private higher education graduates in Indonesia. The research was conducted online in May-December 2017-2019. Descriptive analysis is used to obtain results that describe the actual conditions. The results of the study indicate that the link and match policy in terms of graduate work placement has been effective in private universities in Indonesia. This success is shown by the increase in the absorption of graduates in the world of work, the trend of increasing the vertical and horizontal alignment of graduates. This study also found that the choice of workplaces for graduates of private universities were companies, government agencies, and then NGOs. While entrepreneurship is the last choice for graduates of private universities in Indonesia.

In this day and age, social media has become a necessity for every human being. By using social media networks, users can easily exchange information, especially on linkedin social media. Linkedin is a social media network that can search for information openly, mainly used for professional networking. It will be easier and more practical to connect with professionals worldwide. Like identity, LinkedIn is often used as a medium to introduce yourself or your business to potential colleagues or companies for various purposes. Social media networks are often used to deliver information in various institutions at State Universities (PTN) and Private Universities (PTS). For example, it conveys information about state and private universities' achievements (PTS) achievements. Telkom University uses Linkedin to convey the achievements that have been achieved. This triggers the public to see posts that are positive, negative, or neutral. This study aims to conduct a sentiment analysis about Telkom University which has become the best private university in Indonesia, based on opinions submitted on LinkedIn social media. The process carried out in this study is to process all opinion data about Telkom University, which is the best private university in Indonesia, from Linkedin and then classification using the Random Forest method based on the categories of positive, neutral, and negative sentiments. Sentiment analysis results that have been obtained using the Random Forest classification method are 92.85% accuracy, 83.33% precision, 91.67% recall, and 84.13% F1-score%.

Cilj istraživanja bio je ispitati mogućnost predviđanja školskog uspjeha na temelju osobina ličnosti i ciljnih orijentacija. U istraži- vanju je sudjelovalo 222 učenika općih gimnazija, a sudjelovali su učenici drugog, trećeg i četvrtog razreda (65.8% djevojaka). Kori- šteni su Petofaktorski upitnik ličnosti i Upitnik ciljnih orijentacija, a za podatke o školskom uspjehu od učenika se tražilo da navedu prosjek ocjena na kraju prošle školske godine, te ocjenu iz hrvat- skog jezika, matematike i prvog stranog jezika. Rezultati hijerar- hijske regresijske analize pokazali su kako su Savjesnost i Neu- roticizam pozitivni prediktori prosjeka ocjena i ocjene iz hrvatskog jezika, Otvorenost pozitivan, a Ekstraverzija negativan prediktor ocjene iz stranog jezika. Vezano uz ciljne orijentacije pokazano je kako orijentacija na učenje pozitivno predviđa ocjenu iz hrvatskog jezika. Također, ciljna orijentacija na učenje predstavlja parcijalni medijator odnosa između Savjesnosti i ocjene iz hrvatskog jezika.

Education is learning that humans take throughout their lives to gain experience and knowledge. College is the highest level that can be reached in attaining education and degrees. After students graduate from Senior High School, students can continue their studies towards higher education. High school students have a high interest in private universities. However, private universities are likely unable to facilitate information to students practically. The purpose of making this application is to facilitate students who wished to continue their studies at higher education institutions with information from various private universities in Indonesia. The stages of this research method used the Design Thinking process. Therefore, to help students who have difficulty choosing private universities, the author wishes to create information portal application of private universities in Indonesia.

This study aims to identify how private universities in Indonesia survive and develop and identify development strategies used by private universities in Indonesia in facing the era of change. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature review research design and historical analysis methods. The data is sourced from news and journals, a total of 602 data sources and obtained from online publications through trusted sites and indexes. The results of this study are in the form of a strategy typology that can provide a broader view for private universities if they want to develop their institutions according to the resources they have. Specifically, the data collection process follows the five stages of the historical method in the topic selection and evidence collection; evaluation of the source of the evidence; evaluation of the evidence; analysis and interpretation of the evidence; and evidence presentation and conclusion. Developments in educational institutions can be in the form of restructuring, exploring new markets, establishing cooperation or networking with external parties, participating in private higher education development programs, developing human resources in private universities, especially educators and education staff, as well as university social responsibility.
