This study set out to investigate the relationships among green practices, hotel employees' advocacy, climate change awareness, and organizational citizenship behavior, with a particular focus on the mediating role of climate change awareness in the link between green practices, employee advocacy, and organizational citizenship behavior. A survey was used to collect data from staff members of İzmir, Türkiye's Green Star hotels. Hypotheses were tested using a three-stage regression analysis. The findings prove that green practices of hotels increase employee’s awareness of climate change, organizational citizenship behavior and employee advocacy behaviour, and employees’ climate change awareness increases their organizational citizenship behavior and employee advocacy behaviour. Furthermore, the results show that the association between green practices and employee advocacy and organisational citizenship behaviour is partially mediated by climate change awareness.

  • Nael Mosa Sarhan + 2 more

The purpose of this research is to find out the mediation role of employees’ brand knowledge strategy between organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and employees’ behavior in hotels. Quantitative approach was used in this research, and 204 online questionnaires were used to collect the data from three, four, and five hotel employees in Jordan. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) for hypothesis, validity, and mediation testing. The findings suggest that employees’ brand knowledge strategy plays a positive mediating role between OCB and employees’ behavior in hotels. This indicates that hotel employees with brand knowledge are likely to be motivated and perform well. Moreover, findings showed that OCB has a positive effect on employees’ behavior and its dimensions, helping behavior, in-role performance, and creative behavior. On the other hand, OCB has a negative effect on employees’ deviant behavior. This contributes to OCB theory when considered alongside employee behavior factors, revealing that OCB is influenced by brand knowledge, providing a deeper understanding and practical implications for hotel management and the sector on how employees in hotels may behave and their sense of belonging to the organization.

Impact of Green Practices on Pakistani Manufacturing Firm Performance: A Path Analysis Using Structural Equation Modeling
  • Dec 15, 2018
  • S Abdul Rehman Khan + 4 more

This study investigates the impact of green business practices including “ecological design of products,” “green purchasing of materials,” “cooperation with customers,” and “green practices in logistics operations.” By using SEM modeling, the findings indicate that all the green operations, such practices as “ecological design,” “collaboration with customers,” and “green practice in logistics,” have significant impact on organizational performance. On the other hand, green purchasing has insignificant effect to predict performance of firm. In theoretical context, the key contribution of our study is that “green purchasing of materials” has insignificant effect on predicting performance of Pakistani firms, while in other countries, “green purchasing of materials improves firm” performance. The main reason behind insignificant effect of “green purchasing” is scarcity of green vendors in Pakistan, and many organizations import green materials from other countries which substantially incur costs into the system, and governmental bodies have no supportive role and/or relaxation for green projects in terms of subsidies, lower import duties on green materials, and tax exemption on green manufacturers.

  • A O Adekunmi

The study investigated rice farmers’ awareness and perception of climate change on rice production in Ondo State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study are to: describe the socio-economic characteristics of the rice farmers, determine the level of awareness among rice farmers, examine the perceptions of the respondents on climate change, examine the coping strategies to climate change and identify the constraints militating against the production of rice. A validated interview scheduled was used to source information from one hundred and forty-four rice farmers. Primary data were collected on some socio-economic characteristics of rice farmers, awareness level of climate change, perceived effect of climate change on rice production, adaptation strategies and constraints to rice production in the study area. Descriptive statistics such as frequency count, percentage, mean, and ranking were used to summarize the data. Multiple regression analysis was employed to determine the relationships between selected socio-economic characteristic of rice farmers and their level of awareness of climate change. The mean age of rice farmers was 43.1 years with male (59.7%) dominated rice farming, 78.5% were married, and 70.2% percent could read and write. The mean annual income was N298.611 and mean farm size was 3.3hectares. Rice farmers were aware of climate change through some changes in climate elements such as excessive rainfall, prolonged dry season, high temperature, pests, and diseases infestations etc. As perceived by rice farmers, some effects of climate change were poor growth, poor yield, poor marketing, and the adaptation strategies employed were increased farm size, planting of improved rice varieties, irrigation practices change in planting periods etc. The regression results shows that household size had co-efficient (0.30), sex (0.509), years of farming experience (0.211) and level of education (0.383) which are positively significant to rice farmers’ awareness of climate change. It was found that rice farmers were aware of climate change. The study therefore recommends that rice farmers should be encouraged by Government and Non-Government agencies through the provision of improved rice varieties, fertilizers etc. Rice farmers should also be encouraged to form themselves into cooperative societies in order for them to have easy access to credit and other facilities.

Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) features environmental management with HR practices, with a focus on workplace sustainability, and environmental responsibility. This approach aims to foster a practice of concern for the environment and green practices among employees. Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) is defined as voluntary, extra-role behaviors conducted by employees that enhance an organization’s success but are not part of their formal job responsibilities. These actions, such as supporting coworkers and being proactive, improve overall organizational effectiveness. This study intends to contribute to fill the empirical gap in the existing literature within Sri Lankan context. Hence this was a quantitative and cross- sectional study which was based on an organization in manufacturing industry. The main aim of this study is to analyze the impact of green human resource management on organizational citizenship behavior through the mediating role of job satisfaction in ABC manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. A survey was applied to a sample of 327 collaborators working in the manufacturing industry at ABC Company. The result shows that there is a moderately positive impact of green human resource management on organizational citizenship behavior with the mediator effect of job satisfaction. This study proves to be important when understanding the individual effects caused by a green human resource management system.

Do Green Practices and Pro-Environmental Behaviour Authenticate CSR Talk-Action to achieve Sustainability? Evidence from Pakistani Manufacturing Sector

  • Syed Akber Hussain Rizvi + 1 more

In the present environment, organizations are introducing the concept of sustainability through green supply chain practices. The reason is that green supply chain practices are viewed as the provenance of sustainable performance and ensure the CSR motives of the firm which they tend to share with internal and external stakeholders. However, the successful implementation of green practices requires organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. Thereby, the study introduces a holistic framework that not only aims to scrutinize the relationship between CSR motives and sustainable performance but also highlights the essential role of green supply chain practices and organizational citizenship behavior as a mediator. Moreover, the study also introduces the moderating role of organizational commitment on the relationship between green supply chain and sustainable performance. Data, in this regard, was collected from manufacturing employees of Pakistan and PLS methodology was used to assess measurement and structural model. Empirical findings reveal that CSR motives have no significant impact on sustainable performance, while in the presence of a green supply chain as a mediator, the relationship becomes significant. Interestingly, results reveal that OCB does not mediate the relationship between green supply chain practices and sustainable performance, however, organizational commitment as a potential moderator strengthens the relationship of GSCP with sustainable performance. Contradictory findings open new avenues for researchers and also provide an empirical baseline to shape organizational policies in order to achieve sustainable performance.

Climate change is at the forefront of discourse in the 21st century, which is assuming alarming dimensions year in year out. Climate change specialists have repeatedly pointed out that a solution to climate change problem will require climate change awareness and its proper understanding. This requires the concerted effort of climate change extension agents who will ensure that the necessary attitudinal change required for positive climate change behaviour is achieved. In spite of the attention climate change has attracted lately and the attendant general debate, the relevance of environmental professionals in mitigating climate change and in climate change extension remains comparatively unexplored issue especially in the realm of policy making. The study assessed environmental professional’s perception on the usefulness of awareness and knowledge of climate change. One hundred and ten environmental professionals were selected. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Knowledge and awareness of climate change is potentially helpful to the environmental professionals personally and in climate change extension. Gender did not significantly determine opinion on the usefulness of knowledge and awareness of climate change. Climate change education should be delivered along lifelong learning approach. Environmental professionals should be exposed to regular in-service and on the job training on climate change issues. They should be adequately groomed in andragogical skills. Farmers’ awareness and perception of climate change impacts: case study of Aguie district in Niger
  • May 23, 2018

  • Abdou Matsalabi Ado + 4 more

The agricultural sector is the main source of rural households’ food and revenue in Niger, and it contributes approximately 43% to the national GDP. However, there are several constraints to the sector’s development, including negative impacts of climate change. To mitigate these impacts, farmers implement a range of technical strategies. The extent of farmer’s awareness and perceptions of climate change impacts influences these strategies and hence farmers’ level of adaptation. This study was undertaken to assess farmers’ awareness and perceptions of climate change impacts in Aguie Department, Niger Republic. Descriptive statistics and a regression model were used for data analysis. The results from a descriptive analysis show that the majority of respondents (84.4%) were aware of climate risks, but had differing perceptions of climate change impacts on production and annual revenue. A regression test revealed that climate-related information is highly significant in determining farmers’ awareness of climate change impacts. Most of the respondents reported negative impacts from climate change, and the majority, therefore, adjusted their farming system, albeit at different levels. A probit analysis shows that awareness, perception, education, crop production, soil fertility and annual revenue are highly influential on farmers’ climate change impacts adaptation. This research highlights farmer awareness and perceptions as key factors in the climate change impacts adaptation debate. The findings reveal that effective adaptation to climate change impacts is highly dependent on the extent of community awareness and how farmers perceive the impacts of climate change. The study highlights that institutions targeting households’ livelihood improvement and making decisions concerning climate change adaptation need to focus on media outreach in local languages, improving locally adapted extension services, and developing water use efficiency measures such as improved irrigation for effective and long-term adaptation.

The Impact of Social Capital and Resilience on Organizational Citizenship Behavior Among Hotel Employees
  • Jan 1, 2025
  • Journal of Interdisciplinary Perspectives
  • Mark Louie Santos

The study assessed employees' social capital, resilience, and organizational citizenship behavior within the hotel industry. The study results found that hotel employees exhibit good social capital, resilience, and organizational citizenship behavior, each influencing the others. Among the aspects of resilience, "finding your calling," "interacting cooperatively," and "living authentically" received the highest ratings from the respondents. Additionally, aspects such as "managing stress," "building networks," and "staying healthy" were positively manifested among respondents, indicating a substantial likelihood of exhibiting these resilience characteristics. However, respondents were uncertain about maintaining perspective. The study also showed that hotel employees are likely to agree with and exhibit aspects of organizational citizenship behavior. A strong positive relationship was found between employees’ social capital and their resilience. Linear regression analysis supported these results, revealing that social capital has a significant predictive value for resilience. Furthermore, when correlating employees’ resilience with their organizational citizenship behavior, the study revealed that resilience has a strong positive effect on employees' organizational citizenship behavior. Based on these results, a framework was proposed that depicts how employees’ social capital, resilience, and organizational citizenship behavior interact with one another.

  • Oscarius Yudhi Ari Wijaya

To create hotel customer satisfaction, OCB is needed constantly so that employ- ees themselves have expectations that exceed customer expectations themselves. As such, employees should continue to conduct OCB so that customers are satisfied with the high quality services shown by hotel employees. Therefore, it can be assumed that OCB has a fairly close relationship with the challenges of the hospitality industry services, so the understanding of OCB and its antecedent variables is important for the functioning of hotels effectively and efficiently. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) as a mediator between organizational commitmentand employee performance. The number of research samples is 144 employees of 3, 4 and 5 star hotels in Surabaya. Research data was collected through questionnaires and processed using SmartPLS software. Three findings generated from this study are that organizational commitment has a positive and significant effect on employee performance both directly and through OCB as mediation, and OCB itself also directly has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. The results of this study are also very significant in enriching the OCB research area because it provides a more meaningful OCB measurement framework in the service industry, with special emphasis on the hospitality industry especially in Surabaya. This is very important because OCB began to gain popularity in the hospitality discipline recently.
