Abstract
The asphalt mixture has good absorption property, it is a promise material for the thermal applications. In this study, influence of the solar radiation on the thermal storage capability of the pavement was investigated numerically by using a commercial finite element software. The numerical simulation depends mainly on geometry of the asphalt layer and glass cover. Effect of three parameters of the solar intensity, thickness of the asphalt layer and glass cover have been investigated. It is found that highest surface temperature reaches into 96°C of the pavement which has 100 mm thickness of the asphalt layer and 25 mm of the glass cover, and their surface exposed into 800 W/m 2 of the solar radiation. In contrast of the asphalt thickness, increment of the glass cover thickness has a slight effect on enhancement of the pavement surface temperature. The purpose of placing the glass cover on the asphalt layer is lowering of the heat dissipation from the asphalt layer into the surrounding environment.
