Abstract

Kushimo J. B. and Akinrimisi E. O. Immune response to deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of African trypanosomes. International Journal for Parasitology 12: 537–540. Rabbits immunized with methylated bovine serum albumin (MBSA) complexes of nuclear DNA from either T. brucei or T. vivax which have low content of Adenine + Thymine (A + T) produced only IgM antibodies to denatured DNA. On the other hand rabbits immunized with MBSA complexes of denatured kinetoplast DNA (K-DNA) from either T. brucei or T. vivax which are rich in A + T content elicit both IgM and IgG antibodies. However the amount of IgG antibodies was higher than IgM antibodies. There seems to be a correlation between % AT content of immunogen and average ratio of maximum precipitable IgG to IgM (IgG)/(IgM).
