Abstract

Basophil activation test (BAT) can be useful for evaluating immediate hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones with higher percentage of positive responders with ciprofloxacin than with moxifloxacin. As fluoroquinolones are photoreactive, whether laboratory light exposure can influence in the induction of photoproducts and therefore modify BAT results is unknown. To analyze the effect of laboratory light in ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin degradation, drug-protein conjugate formation and therefore in basophil activation in patients with immediate hypersensitivity reactions to fluoroquinolones.
