Abstract

This report about Illinois school funding briefly describes an evidence-based model for school finance adequacy as well as budgetary considerations affecting how the model is funded. State P-12 funding priorities are identified as well as education human resource concerns. Attention is also given to state-funded alternatives to traditional public schools. Pressing issues that impact school funding, technical mechanics of state aid distributions, and public policies are primarily state budget allocations and school personnel. The state is progressing to fully fund its evidence-based model, but larger state budget allocations are needed. Attracting and retaining high-quality teachers remains challenging.
