Abstract
Abstract Ankle sprains are the most common sports-related injury and are caused by forced plantar flexion and inversion. Most involve the lateral ligamentous complex and recover with conservative management, but 20% go on to develop biomechanical or functional instability. This article focuses on clinical symptoms, signs, conservative and surgical management of acute lateral ankle sprains and lateral ankle instability.
