Abstract

There are several reasons to anticipate alterations in the pharmacokinetic (PK) characteristics of medications following bariatric surgery. Approximately 40% of bariatric surgery candidates are taking an antidepressant medication prior to surgery and the majority of patients continue to take them following surgery. Therefore, potential PK alterations in antidepressant and other psychotropic medications following surgery are important to consider, as they may affect their efficacy and tolerability.
