Abstract
The World Health Organization (headquarters in Geneva) is going through a major reform process; the main origins for this reform lie in the budget problem: for a total annual budget of over US$4Billion, the member state contributions only account for roughly 1/4th and the remaining $3Billion must be raised via all kinds of contributions during the execution of the program. A second crisis arose from the misjudgment by WHO during the H1N1 flu outbreak, where they largely “overshot” the effective needs in vaccinations, which cost governments billions. Several consequences arose, amongst others, direct accusations were uttered about the questionable presence in WHO expert boards of representatives from pharmaceutical industry, themselves immediately concerned by the number of vaccines marketed!
