Abstract

IEF in narrow (< 2 pH units) and ultranarrow (< 0.5 pH units) immobilized pH gradients are used for one and two-dimensional separations. A high degree of resolution (δ pI < 0.001) and reproducibility is achieved. Large scale IEF with an immobilized pH gradient 4.35 - 4.55 (δ pH = 0.01 unit/cm) is applied for accurate PI M subtyping. Clustered areas of 2D maps are drastically better resolved when narrow immobilized pH gradients are used for the first dimension.
