Abstract

A new surgical technique is presented for the treatment of the idiopathic hemifacial spasm. It consists in exposing the nerve in the third portion of the Fallopian canal, performing a longitudinal neurotomy, and inserting a silicon rubber sheet through it to avoid nerve regeneration. Comments are made concerning the etiology, diagnosis and surgery of this disease. Three cases are presented along with the results obtained.
