Abstract

The arterial input impedance describes the dynamic relationship between pressure and flow at a particular arterial cross section. A practical approach is to fit the arterial input impedance by a ratio of two frequency-dependent polynomials. In this paper, a method for estimating the polynomial coefficients is presented. It is based on the minimisation of the weighted sum of squares of the apparent power errors, computed at various values of frequency. The main advantage of this criterion function is that the unknown coefficients can be evaluated by means of non-iterative expressions, starting from measured arterial pressure and flow wave forms.
