Abstract
The presence of women in the Spanish audiovisual sector is scarce. Our study is an examination of the creators, directors and executive producers in series in recent years. It begins with a review of the Netflix catalogue since its installation in Spain, where only five of its thirty-four national productions were produced by women. To explain this result, in-depth interviews were conducted with female professionals, who had led Spanish fiction productions. Their assessment was unanimous: subsidies and SVOD productions had increased their opportunities. But females assume roles in a reduced range of genres, which conditions the budgets and the reach of their projects.
