Abstract

Colonoscopy remains the gold standard for adenoma detection. Missed lesions in colonoscopy contribute to 60% of interval colorectal cancers. Tandem studies have shown that flat, sessile and diminutive (<5mm) adenomas are most commonly missed. The use of artificial intelligence in endoscopy is a rapidly evolving field. Computer-aided detection systems (CADe) to help identify polyps have been validated and are now commercially available. We aim to assess whether CADe systems improve real time detection of these “difficult” (diminutive, sessile or flat) adenomas.
