Abstract

Bedside monitors alert care providers to abnormal patient physiological signals. Excessive numbers of false alarms (FA), however, is a technology hazard. Artificial intelligence (AI) reduces FA [NPJ Dig Med 2019;(2):86] to enhance patient safety [JMIR Med Inform 2020;8(7):e18599]. Paradoxically in colonoscopy, computer aided detection (CADe) of polyps using AI is negatively impacted by FA which hinders its adoption, because the reliability of an information system is important in its introductory stage. The adoption of CADe would be easier when techniques are available to decrease FA.
