Abstract

The current study, displaying the reflection of political, ethical, psychological and social life of the times in Rosmersholm (1886), one of the middle plays of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, aims at showing the social and political conditions in Norway in the early nineteenth century and the way how they influenced the behaviour and attitudes of people and the dramatis persona in the play. This paper also makes an effort to shed new light on the significance of Christianity on the social life of the time.
