Abstract

A 70 year old female patient with heart failure and severe pulmonary hypertension had an elevated cardiac output and high oxygen content in the inferior vena cava (IVC) during cardiac catheterisation. (A) Computed tomography angiography showed a large arteriovenous fistula (arrowhead) between the left common iliac vessels and an enlarged contrast enhanced IVC (asterisk), most likely caused by overlooked vessel trauma during a posterior L5–S1 spinal fusion procedure performed a decade previously. (B) The iliac artery defect was closed using an Advanta V12 9 × 32 mm covered stent (Getinge, Gothenburg, Sweden; arrow). The patient’s cardiovascular condition improved significantly.Image 1
