Abstract
This important fragment, whose textual reconstruction is extremely problematic, from Pacuvius’s Antiope could be hypothetically situated at the end of Amphion’s discourse in the agon with Zethus. Amphion ceded to his brother’s insistence, while also putting into relief the limits of each ethical model. Such moderation and willingness to cooperate led to Antiope’s salvation. Proposed by Pacuvius on the Roman scene, the complex message of this fragmentary Euripidean tragedy is adapted to the cultural and political debates of the time.
