Abstract

Rationale: Previous studies showed negative effects of more advanced stages of periodontitis (chronic inflammation of gingival tissue and supporting bone structures) on renal transplant recipients (RTRs). Arterial hypertension (AH) and periodontitis share common comorbidities and are highly prevalent amongst RTRs which puts them at higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Mediterranean Diet (MeDi) is useful to prevent the early onset of chronic non-transmittable diseases and plays an important factor in periodontal health status.
