Abstract
Abstract A Jamaican who had been in England for 13 years was successfully treated for hyperinfection with the nematode Strongyloides stercoralis. She presented as an emergency with acute abdominal pain, developed paralytic ileus and responded well to a long course of thiabendazole. A review of the literature revealed reports of 3 other cases of hyperinfection in Great Britain, all of whom had died, 2 afrer laparotomy.
