Abstract

The hyperfine splitting of the 8.6-kev gamma ray from Tm/sup 169m/ in thulium iron garnet at 90, 100, and 300 deg K is measured. Values for the effective magnetic field at the Tm nucleus, and for the magnetic moment of the 8.6-kev state, are calculated. The splitting is measured by means of the Mossbauer effect, using a source of Er/sub 2/O/sub 3/ at 450 deg C. The ratio of the magnetizations of the Tm sublattice in the garnet at 300 and 90 deg K is measured. (T.F.H.)
