Abstract

Reaction of cobalt nitrate hexahydrate with pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (H2pydc) under hydrothermal conditions gave a supramolecular network containing the complex [Co(H2O)5][Co2(pydc)2]·2H2O. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, single-crystal diffraction, and TGA/DTA studies. The complex crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/c with four molecules per unit cell. Determination of the structure revealed that two independent cobalt(II) ions, each having a different coordination environment are bridged through carboxylate ligands. A three-dimensional supramolecular network having a porous structure is extended by hydrogen bonding.
