Abstract
Hydrogenation of the Nd1.1Fe4B4 η-boride has been studied. The disproportionation of the boride in hydrogen above 700°C results in the formation of a ‘sandwich’-type structure consisting of NdH2 ± x and Fe2B. No significant recombination was observed on heating the hydrogenated sample in vacuum, which was attributed to an increased oxygen content in the decomposed layer.
