Abstract

This study is the first trial to measure the osmotic water permeability or the hydraulic conductivity of the plasmalemma alone of a plant cell. For this purpose tonoplast-free cells were prepared from intenodal cells ofChara australis and their hydraulic conductivities were measured by the transcellular osmosis method.
