Abstract

The concept of the cement optimum gypsum content is considered in relation to the compressive strength of concrete at 90 days. Seven brands of cement were studied in mixes having the nominal cement content of 250, 350 and 450 kg. per cu.m. with the initial hydration temperature controlled for the first 20 hours at 10°, 20°, 30°, 40° and 50°C. Results suggest that the validity of the concept of the cement optimum gypsum content to control concrete strength is doubtful and may be questioned. However, further research will be necessary before a more definite conclusion can be reached.
