Abstract

We report the observation of hybrid optical spectral bistability in an unbalanced fiber Michelson interferometer by use of an electrooptically tuned continuous-wave fiber laser in which a fiber Bragg grating is employed to constitute a tunable resonant cavity. The potential applications of such a device as a wavelength shift monitor or a fiber-optic sensor working in digital type are also discussed.
