Abstract

Streptococci which were morphologically and biochemically similar to the caries-inducing hamster streptococci were isolated from dental plaque material obtained from highly caries-active persons. On the introduction of these strains in the oral cavity of albino hamsters the animals developed rampant caries. The implication of the findings is discussed.
