Abstract

A new, simple, accurate, and precise HPTLC method has been established for separation and simultaneous analysis of aspirin, salicylic acid, and sulfosalicylic acid. Standard and sample solutions of aspirin, salicylic acid and sulfosalicylic acid were applied to aluminum foil silica gel G 60 F 254 HPTLC plates impregnated with 2% ( w/v ) boric acid in ethanol. The plates were developed with chloroform-methanol-ammonia-water 120:75:2:6 ( v/v ) as mobile phase. UV detection was performed densitometrically at 254 nm. The retention factors of aspirin, salicylic acid, and sulfosalicylic acid were 0.81, 0.61, and 0.24, respectively. The linear range was 100–1000 ng per band for all three compounds, and the correlation coefficients, R 2 , were 0.97, 0.94, and 0.95, respectively. The limits of quantification (LOQ) were 122.81, 94.86, and 60.50 ng, respectively, and the respective limits of detection (LOD) were 36.84, 36.84, and 18.14 ng. Analysis of standard solutions revealed precision and repeatability were good...
