Abstract

Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) focused the interest of scientist for years now, due to assessed biological activities such as anti infectious, anti inflammatory or anti cancer activity. Anti infectious activity is linked to Proanthocyanidins A (PAC A), major PACs in cranberry. To characterize PACs content of cranberry extracts, official method is called BL-DMAC which is a global quantitation method. A new routine analytical method of PAC content will be presented here based on HPTLC – densitometry. This protocol allows selective quantitation of catechin, PAC-A2 and PAC B1 (both dimeric PACs) on one plate.
