Abstract

Salt solvation and confinement can be efficiently used to supercool aqueous samples to temperatures well below the homogeneous nucleation limit of pure water. Does it imply that the behavior of water in regions of the thermodynamic space not experimentally accessible may be inferred from that of salty or confined water? Neutron diffraction and broad band dielectric spectroscopy are used to discuss this issue, and put into evidence advantages and risks of a straightforward extrapolation.
