Abstract

AbstractThis paper analyzes how environmentally friendly fuels (also referred to as “ecofuels” herein) affect the toxicity of exhaust gas emitted by power plants in transports, namely by diesel engines. The research team calculated and experimentally tested the toxicity of exhaust gas emitted when using different ecofuels: natural gas, rapeseed oil, alcohols, and hydrogen fuel. Experiments were run in locomotive maintenance depots as well as at the Cross-Industrial Laboratory for Gas Motor and Hydrogen Fuels, Samara State Transport University. K6S310DR and D242 processes were simulated in DISEL-RK and ENGINE software; the packages were also used to calculate the presence of toxic components in exhaust gas. Comparative analysis of the presence of toxic components in such exhaust gas helps conclude whether ecofuels are actually an appropriate solution from the standpoint of environmental safety.
