Abstract
"Development of the basic amenities of the safe drinking water, sanitation, electricity, proper housing to the people are the pre-requisite not only for the sustained economic growth but they are the most important components of the primary health care" (UN 1995). "Poor environmental sanitation - that include insufficient and unsafe water supply and lack of safe means of human disposal is a critical link in the chain of diarrhoeal diseases" (UN 1954, UNICEF 1989). "No Single condition in the lives of masses has such a damaging effect on the health or does harm in so many ways as bad housing" (Robertson 1919).
