Abstract
This paper provides a collection and critical discussion of all the literary and iconographic evidence available on the slave who crowned the Roman triumphator (and also the protagonist in related Roman processions). The notoriously meagre iconographic record of this scene is substantially enlarged by hitherto unknown (or misinterpreted) coin types of the second century AD presented in this article for the first time.
