Abstract
The evolution of Caldwell-Luc surgery is intricately tied to the close anatomical relationship between the maxillary sinus (Highmore cavity) and the nasal cavity (hiatus semilunaris). From a clinicopathological perspective, the discussion and treatment of this border area have become integrated. This confluence stems from recognizing that sinus inflammatory diseases may not only originate from the roots of upper teeth but can easily be infected by inflammations in the surrounding areas. Consequently, a longstanding effort has been made to address chronic and recurrent sinus inflammations caused by various inflammatory diseases through effective and radical surgical means.
