Abstract
Objective: Transsexual patients undergo therapy with high dose of androgens for the expressed purpose of gender reassignment. These patients then undergo oophorectomy with or without hysterectomy for the purposes of their gender reassignment. This treatment provides an in vivo model of the effects of a supra-physiological dose of androgens on the normal female genital tract-thus, providing the opportunity to further understand the role of androgens in modulating hormone receptor expression, changes in cellular proliferation, cell atrophy, ovulation, and the propensity to dysplastic change.
