In this article is shown how Ovide acts, regarding the Vergilian episodes of Hippolytus and Aesculapius, as a complementary interpreter of the Mantuan poet. It contributes, as well in the Fasti as in the Metamorphoses , to the identification of the god of Epidaurus, completing and explaining all that in the Vergilian Hippolytus remained incomplete and obscure.
