Abstract

Introduction: Hip, groin and pubis injuries account for a high number of games lost in Australian Rules Football at all levels of the game. AFL statistics for seasons 2001–2006 saw groin pathologies account for an average of 13.0 missed games per club per season involving an average of 3.25 players per team. Over this same period these groin injuries had a 23% recurrence rate. Treatment of these injuries may require a variety of strategies, but prevention must become a priority. The ability to effectively facilitate or inhibit particular core and global muscles around the hip and pelvis to prevent these injuries is an important consideration.
