Abstract

In order to study the dynamic behaviour of concrete, a wide programme of research has been carried out at the Joint Research Centre, Ispra site by means of the Hopkinson bar bundle. The aim of this study was to produce new data on some debated basic subjects of industrial importance, such as the behaviour of plain concrete at strain rates corresponding to those provoked by quasi-static, earthquake and impact loading. In this paper the high-strain-rate tensile behaviour of plain concrete is described.
