Abstract
Highly substituted anthraquinone esters (3a/b, 6, 20) and acids (12, 21) are synthesized by base induced anionic cyclizations starting from bisalkylated naphthalenes (e.g. 10) or monoalkylated naphthoquinones (e.g. 19).
