Abstract

Abstract The internal and external structures of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak EAST are very complicated and not easily accessed. In regard to the characteristics of these structures, the technical problems of panoramic photography and panoramic system construction are discussed, and the immersive panoramic display of EAST is realized. In December 2018, after EAST was updated, 324 high-definition photographs taken from four angles inside and five angles outside the device were used to synthesize a panoramic picture of 2000 × 10,000 pixels. Nine panoramic photographs of different angles were used to develop a multifunctional software system; these, along with the relevant virtual reality VR hardware, were used to also achieve immersive roaming. Using the method described here, the virtual EAST system is accomplished using inexpensive and commercially available software and hardware. In addition, realistic visualizations for users can be provided using panoramic photographs. In this paper, the virtual EAST panoramic roaming system for VR boxes and VR integrated machines is established and relevant technologies are discussed.
