Abstract

This paper presents simple speech coding algorithm, based on differential coding and backward adaptive quantization. Both coding techniques are based on backward adaptation, meaning that for the coding of current speech signal sample the information from the previously coded samples are used. Paper also emphasis on the quantizer design and on the iterative optimal support limit determination. Experimental results indicate that our low complexity algorithm complies with the G. 712 Recommendation for high quality speech coding, while using only 6 bits per sample. Additionally, higher objective output signal quality in comparison to similar complexity coding algorithms indicate that the proposed algorithm can be indeed successfully applied in speech signal coding.
