Abstract

The effect of solvent relaxation on the intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) reactions in the excited state has been studied in alcohol solvents by high pressure method. To get insight into the solvent relaxation dynamics, the time-dependent fluorescence Stokes shift of coumarin 153 was measured at high pressures. The time scale of solvent relaxation thus determined agreed well with the longest component of longitudinal relaxation time of solvent which has been determined from low temperature dielectric measurements.
