Abstract

The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the emission spectra and fluorescence lifetime (τ) of Mn2+ in LaMgAl11O19 (LMA) crystals up to 101kbar has been studied at room temperature. From the position of the peak (4T1→6A1 transition) in the emission spectra, we estimated that the pressure induced red-shift. A variation, slowly decreasing, in the fluorescence lifetime (τ) values for 4T1→6A1 transition was observed. The pressure-induced red-shift and lifetime variation could be described by simple models. In the considered pressure range (0–101kbar), a good agreement between the experimental values and theoretically predicted values was obtained.
