Significant Factors of High Performance Outcomes for Tibial Plafond Fractures.

Limited research exists about high performance postsurgical tibial plafond fractures. This study aimed to identify aspects of the plafond fracture injury and care associated with "high performance" based on Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Physical Function (PF) scores. Tibial plafond fracture patients with minimum 12-month follow-up treated at a level 1 trauma center from 2006 to 2019 were categorized into high (top 25%) vs average-low (AL) (bottom 75%) performers based on PROMIS PF scores. Demographics and fracture characteristics of high and AL performers were compared. Variables with a P value less than .1 were used in stepwise logistic regressions. The final cohort of 198 patients was divided into high (n=51) and AL (n=147) performers based on PF scores. The mean PF scores for the high and AL groups were 58 (SD=5.3) and 41.9 (SD=6.5), respectively. The mean PROMIS Pain Interference scores for the high performers and AL were 43.3 (SD=4.9) and 56.8 (SD=8.6) (P < .001), respectively. FAAM activities of daily living (high 95.4 [SD=5.5] vs AL 70.4 [SD=19.8], P < .001) and FAAM sports (high 76.8 [SD=21.3] vs AL 27.3 [SD=28.9], P < .001) subscale scores were significantly greater in the high-performing group. Sex, age, marital status, and diabetes were nonsignificant factors in univariate analysis. Significant demographic factors associated with high performance from univariate analysis were Caucasian race, private insurance, no tobacco use, lower body mass index (BMI), and mechanism of injury. Patients with fracture characteristics of OTA 43C (complete articular) fractures, bone loss, open fractures, or nonexcellent reduction were significantly less likely to be high performers. Additionally, less than excellent reductions were more common in more complex fracture patterns. Multivariable regression modeling showed that higher BMI, OTA/AO 43-C (complete articular) fracture classification, and open fracture were significant independent risk factors for reducing likelihood of high performance. Significant independent factors associated with high performance after tibial plafond fracture are lower BMI, closed fracture, and OTA/AO 43-B (partial articular) fracture.

What academic mobility configurations contribute to high performance: an fsQCA analysis of CSC-funded visiting scholars

Against the backdrop of globalization, the world is witnessing increasingly frequent transnational mobility, placing scientific mobility in the spotlight. Highly competitive researchers with an international vision are regarded as engines that, for any nation, drive scientific and technological progress and social development. Over the past two decades, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) has provided sustainable financial and policy support to promote academic mobility. This study aims to identify complex antecedent configurations contributing to the high research performance of scholars after their research visits funded by the CSC. Fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) is employed to conduct a causal analysis on 630 researchers who received CSC academic mobility funding in 2012. Then, bibliometric indexes and fsQCA are combined to identify the antecedent configurations (combinations) that lead to the high research performance of these researchers. From experimental results, we identify six combinations (configurations) of visiting scholars and four combinations of postdoctoral researchers that lead to high research performance after their research visits. In more details, active international collaboration before their visits plays a core role in the high research performance of scholars after mobility. Meanwhile, the reputation of institutions and the academic position constitute an important part of the combinations that lead to high research performance. Additionally, the role of the duration of the research visit in the high performance of researchers cannot be ignored. Gender is not a crucial part of the causal combinations that explain high performance. This study provides insights to design and improve similar academic mobility programmes worldwide.

Comparison of Rehabilitation Characteristics Among High, Average, and Low Performers on Return-to-Sport Testing in Athletes After ACL Reconstruction

Background: Athletes who undergo an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) typically follow supervised rehabilitation before returning to sport. Return-to-sport (RTS) readiness is partially determined by RTS testing. It is not known how characteristics of the supervised rehabilitation episode of care relate to performance on RTS testing. Purpose: To compare high, average, and low performers on RTS testing among athletes after ACLR in regard to characteristics of their rehabilitation episode of care. Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence 3. Methods: Data from 262 athletes after ACLR (age 20.7 ± 6.7 years; 131 females) who underwent supervised rehabilitation and elective RTS testing were analyzed. Demographic data including the ACL Return-to-Sport Inventory (ACL-RSI) were gathered. RTS testing data included triple-hop symmetry, single-leg vertical jump symmetry, and an assessment of a repeated change-of-direction task for time, the Lower Extremity Functional Test. Athletes were classified as high or low performers if they were in the top (high performers) or bottom quartile (low performers) of at least 2 of the 3 performance measures. Episode of care characteristics included total supervised rehabilitation encounters, episode length, number of unique rehabilitation providers, and frequency of encounters in each quartile. Analyses of covariance with Bonferroni corrections were performed to assess between-group differences with age and sex as covariates. Results: Of the 262 athletes analyzed, 52 were classified as high performers and 46 were classified as low performers. Compared with high performers, low performers had a lower frequency of rehabilitation encounters in the third quartile (−0.39 visits per week; 95% CI, −0.60 to −0.18; P &lt; .01) and fourth quartile (−0.34 visits per week; 95% CI, −0.54 to −0.14; P &lt; .01). Compared with average performers, low performers had a lower frequency of rehabilitation encounters in the third quartile (−0.20 visits per week; 95% CI, −0.36 to −0.03; P = .04). The ACL-RSI score of the high performers was higher than that of average performers (+10.65; 95% CI, 4.17 to 17.12; P &lt; .01) and low performers (+14.82; 95% CI, 6.70 to 22.95; P &lt; .01). Conclusion: Athletes who performed well on RTS tests after ACLR had a significantly higher frequency of rehabilitation encounters during the second half of their rehabilitation episode. Supervised care during the later stages of rehabilitation may have contributed to the more favorable outcomes on RTS tests. Clinicians and patients should consider the timing and distribution of rehabilitation encounters when creating and modifying a plan of care.

Most cognitive neuroscientific research exploring the nature of age-associated compensatory mechanisms has compared old adults (high vs. average performers) to young adults (not split by performance), leaving ambiguous whether findings are truly age-related or reflect differences between high and average performers throughout the life span. Here, we examined differences in neural activity (as measured by ERPs) that were generated by high vs. average performing old, middle-age, and young adults while processing novel and target events to investigate the following three questions: (1) Are differences between cognitively high and average performing subjects in the allocation of processing resources (as indexed by P3 amplitude) specific to old subjects, or found throughout the adult life span? (2) Are differences between cognitively high and average performing subjects in speed of processing (as indexed by target P3 latency) of similar magnitude throughout the adult life span? (3) Where along the information processing stream does the compensatory neural activity attributed to cognitively high performing old subjects begin to take place? Our results suggest that high performing old adults successfully manage the task by a compensatory neural mechanism associated with the modulation of controlled processing and the allocation of more resources, whereas high performing younger subjects execute the task more efficiently with fewer resources. Differences between cognitively high and average performers in processing speed increase with age. Middle-age seems to be a critical stage in which substantial differences in neural activity between high and average performers emerge. These findings provide strong evidence for different patterns of age-related changes in the processing of salient environmental stimuli, with cognitive status serving as a key mediating variable.

State Anxiety and Self-Efficacy among Track and Field Low and High Performers

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of state anxiety and self-efficacy among track and field low and high performers. Method: A total of 250 athletes of track and field (100 track, high&low) and (150 field, high&low) were selected as subjects from the Saudi Inter-University participants whose age ranged between 18 to 25 years. Two questionnaires, competitive state anxiety inventory - 2 and sports self-efficacy scale were used for the collection of the data. The mean, the standard deviation, and the t-test were used as the statistical tools to analyze the data. Findings: The results indicated that there were significant differences between the track high and low performers in cognitive anxiety (P ˂ 0.05), self-confidence (P ˂ 0.05) and self-efficacy (P ˂ 0.05). While there was no significant difference between field high and low performers in all the study variables (P ˃ 0.05). The track high performers differed significantly with the field high performers in only self-efficacy (P ˂ 0.05). Whereas, the track low performers had meaningful lower anxiety and self-efficacy than the field low performers (P ˂ 0.05). Applications: It was concluded that the track high performers were more anxious and effective than the track low performers. In addition, the track high performers revealed remarkably greater self-efficacy than the field high performers. Finally, the field low performers had greater anxiety and self-efficacy than the track low performers.

Comparative Analysis of PISA 2018 Science Achievement of High and Low Performers in Korea, Canada, and Taiwan

This study identified the strengths and weaknesses of Korean high and low performers in science, comparing their performance with Canadian and Taiwanese students. Using raw data from the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), correct answer rates were analyzed for the Competency and Knowledge dimensions within the PISA framework. Additionally, correct answer rates for each item were examined across high and low performers in the three countries. The findings are as follows. In Competence dimension, both Korean high and low performers showed a weaker evaluation and design of scientific inquiry and a stronger scientific interpretation of data and evidence compared to the analyzed countries. In Knowledge dimension, Korean high performers and students as a whole showed stronger procedural knowledge, biological system, and Earth and space system content knowledge, and epistemic knowledge. Item characteristics with high performers’ lowest correct answer rate and low performers’ highest correct answer rate by analyzed country were as follows. Korean high performers showed difficulty in item types with more than one correct answer and items that required epistemic knowledge to answer the question. low performers showed difficulty solving familiar items with frequently encountered problem situations and had difficulty with items related to the ecosystem.

Characterizing high cognitive performance in persons with mood disorders and their unaffected relatives: associations with emotional cognition, functioning, and clinical outcomes.

Mood disorders are characterized by considerable cognitive heterogeneity. However, little is known about high cognitive performance and its associations with relevant clinical outcomes. High cognitive performance in persons with mood disorders and high-risk unaffected relatives (UR) may be an expression of resilience to illness-related neuropathology. Cross-sectional data from persons with mood disorders (n = 212), unaffected relatives (UR) (n = 96), and healthy controls (HC) (n = 152) were pooled from two cohort studies, during which participants completed neuropsychological test batteries comprising both non-emotional and emotional cognition. Participants were grouped into ‘high’ or ‘normal cognitive performance’ subgroups based on their global cognitive performance. Groups were compared to investigate high-performing persons with mood disorders and relatives, respectively, in demographic and clinical variables and emotional cognition. Resulting subgroups were persons with mood disorders with high (P-HP = 67) and normal cognitive performance (P-NP = 135), UR with high (UR-HP = 41) and normal cognitive performance (UR-NP = 52) and HC with high (HC-HP = 86) and normal cognitive performance (HC-NP = 66). P-HP were characterized by fewer experiences of physical abuse, fewer mood episodes and improved functioning compared to P-NP. Both P-HP and UR-HP experienced more overall childhood trauma, compared to HC-HP. All cognitively high-performing subgroups exhibited faster recognition of emotional faces compared to their corresponding normally performing group. High cognitive performance was associated with favorable clinical outcomes and improved functioning in persons with mood disorders and high-risk UR. Given this association, above-average enhancement of cognition beyond normalization may aid functional recovery.

Development of lithium ion batteries (LIBs) helps promote the spread of electric vehicles (EVs) over the world. Everyone is expected that the next generation of eco-friendly and high-performance EVs that was driven with LIBs become very popular in our daily life in the future. However, it will take a long time before it becomes widespread because of two reasons; the performance of the electric vehicles cannot satisfy the demands of daily life, and LIBs are expensive. The achievement of charging and discharging with high current densities is one of the requirements for high performance LIBs in EVs, almost all of LIBs cannot satisfy the requirement specification (high rate performance) for the next generation of LIBs. When the present LIBs are charged and discharged with high current densities to shorten the charging time and to accelerate the EVs in shorter time, respectively, the charging and discharging capacities largely drop, and the rechargeable performance is seriously damaged. In order to improve the high rate performance of the present LIBs, selection of materials, optimization of cathode and anode particle sizes, composition of cathode and anode layers for active materials, binder and conductive additives, coating of the active material surfaces and design of cells and electrodes have been examined. Each examination has achieved some success in the point view of high rate performance. However, recently, improvement of the high rate performance in the present LIBs unfortunately reaches a deadlock. Therefore, in this study, we propose strongly one of the solutions for the improvement of high rate performance with our developed laser technology. In this study, we developed preparing a porous graphite anode and a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4, LFP) cathode with a pico-second pulsed laser, in which through-holes having 20 mm diameters and an opening rate of 0.5% were formed on the graphite layer/copper (Cu) anode and the LiFePO4 layer/aluminum (Al) cathode. The cells composed of porous cathodes and anodes exhibited improvement of the high rate discharging performance when compared with those of cells prepared with non-porous cathodes and anodes and with cells prepared with cathodes and anodes prepared with conventional porous current collectors. The formation of holes on the anodes and cathodes can be prepared simply and speedily with the pico-second pulsed laser to increase the accessibility of the anode and cathode materials to Li+, resulting in the enhancement of the rate performance of the electrodes. The mechanism of the improvement of the high rate discharging performance was discussed with the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).

Morphological Asymmetries Profile and the Difference between Low- and High-Performing Road Cyclists Using 3D Scanning.

Simple SummaryThere is a necessity to measure body asymmetries in road cycling as it can directly impact the performance level. The present study aimed to identify the morphological asymmetry profile of road cyclists. This study uses a novel 3D scanning method and electrical bioimpedance to investigate the impact of possible morphological asymmetries on performance in road cycling. The findings indicate that high-performance road cyclists are more symmetrical and have fewer morphological asymmetries than low-performance road cyclists.The aims of this study are: (1) to identify morphological asymmetries in road cycling by using a novel 3D scanning method and electrical bioimpedance, (2) to investigate possible asymmetries in road cyclists of low (LPG) and high (HPG) performance group, (3) to compare the number of morphological asymmetries between HPG and LPG of cyclists, and (4) to explore correlations between asymmetry scores and competition performance. Body composition and 3D anthropometric measurements were conducted on 48 top-level male road cyclists (178.98 ± 5.39 cm; 68.37 ± 5.31 kg) divided into high (n = 22) and low (n = 26) performance groups. Competition performance (CP) is represented through racing points gathered at the end of the competition season. The latter was used to divide road cyclists into low- and high-performing groups. One-way ANOVA was used to determine differences between groups, while paired-samples T-test and Absolute Asymmetry index (AA) were calculated (p ≤ 0.05) for paired variables inside the groups, and the Spearman correlation coefficient was used to explore correlations between AA and CP. Results showed statistically significant differences between the left and right side of different body segments (16 paired variables) among low-performing road cyclists in five paired variables of the upper body: elbow girth (4.35, p = 0.000), forearm girth (6.31, p = 0.000), arm surface area (2.54, p = 0.018), and arm volume (2.71, p = 0.012); and six paired variables of the lower body: leg lean mass (5.85, p = 0.000), leg length (3.04, p = 0.005), knee girth (4.93, p = 0.000), calf girth (5.25, p = 0.000), leg surface area (4.03, p = 0.000), and leg volume (5.3, p = 0.000). Altogether, the high-performing group of road cyclists statistically differed only in 2 out of 16 paired variables of the upper body: elbow girth (4.93, p = 0.000) and in forearm girth (5.12, p = 0.000). Low- and high-performing groups were statistically significantly different in the asymmetry of leg lean mass F(1,46) = 6.25, p = 0.016 and asymmetry of the calf girth F(1,46) = 7.44, p = 0.009. AA of calf girth on the total sample (n = 48) showed a significant correlation with CP (r = −0.461; p = 0.001). In conclusion, the study’s main finding was that high-performance road cyclists are more symmetrical than the low-performance group, for which it is significant to have a higher amount of morphological asymmetries.

Discriminant analysis of state level volleyball players on the basis of high and low performance

Background: This study aims to employ Discriminant Analysis to examine the differentiation between state-level volleyball players categorized as "High Performance" and "Low Performance,". Objectives of the Study: 1. To characterize the level of anthropometric, functional and volleyball skill of volleyball players on the basis of high and low performance. 2. To develop discriminate model for classifying a State level Volleyball Players into High or low – performance categories. Materials and methods: In this study 72 male state-level volleyball players from various volleyball academies were selected, their age ranging between 19-25 year, all were selected by using purposive sampling. These selected subjects had been alienated into two group i.e. high and low performance group. Anthropometrical variables were measured by anthropometric kit, General volley pass playing ability, serving skill, passing skill and AAHPER serving test Numerical was measured by Brady’s wall volleying test, AAHPER passing test, AAHPER set up test and AAHPER serving test respectively. Leg Explosive Power, Shoulder Strength, Agility, Abdominal strength measured Standing broad Jump, Medicine ball throw Distance, 10x4 shuttle run, Sit-ups respectively. Results: Box’s M test value is 1.357 is not significant it means that the assumption of homogeneity of variance/covariance matrices is not violated. Canonical correlations of function 1 is.639 indicates 40.83% (=.639) of the variation in the two different group. Wilks&#39; Lambda value is.807 which indicates the model is good as only 65.12% in function 1 variability is not explained by the model. The value of chi-square is 15.294 shows the significance of Wilks Lambda. Group means for high and low group means are.482 and -.482 which are group centroid. (78.4%) cases were correctly classified by the model which is quite high, therefore the model can be considered as valid. Conclusions: Discriminant function for the State level volleyball players on the basis of the performance (High and Low) is Z= -5.331 +.401× (Set Up).

The Correlation of High Employee Performance and Leadership Potential Ratings: Case in Petrochemical Industry, United Arab Emirates

Globally, the petrochemical industry has increasingly become a vital component of numerous industrial processes as it provides raw materials for a wide range of products that find application in automotive, construction, and manufacturing. With the recent development in the petrochemical industry, the need to identify, select and develop future leaders based on evidence-based criteria has become significantly important to ensure leadership and business continuity in the petrochemical industry in the United Arab Emirates. The objective of the proposed paper is to determine the relationship between high employee performance and leadership potential ratings as two factors being considered in a talent pool wherein potential leaders are selected during succession planning. Fifty-five (55) high performing leaders whose performance rating is either exceed expectations or significantly exceed expectations were extracted and correlated against their potential ratings using correlational data statistical analysis. The composition of 55 high performing leaders came from various leadership levels such as section heads, supervisors, department managers, and vice presidents. Each employee's performance rating was correlated against each of the 5 factors that constitute leadership potential resulting in a unique correlational coefficient for each of the leadership potential factors. The result of the correlational research analysis revealed that there is no correlation between high employee performance and leadership potential ratings. Employees who have high performance at the current role do not necessarily become an effective leader in a higher and more complex leadership role. The correlation coefficient of each of the five factors against the employee's performance ratings: Performance and Innovation: −0.067 Performance and Performing: +0.086 Performance and Reflecting: +0.197 Performance and Risking: +0.190 Performance and Defending: +0.173 In order to establish that there is a strong correlation between the two variables, the correlation coefficient must be between .80 to 1.0. The findings supported the fact that after administering potential assessments and generating employee's potential rating plotted in the 9-box grid, some leaders still manually calibrate (decrease or increase) employee's potential rating and sometimes including performance rating. Furthermore, not all employees who are high performers and got high potential ratings were perceived as potential leaders nor demonstrated leadership effectiveness when promoted to a more senior role. This paper will present novel and additive information to leadership development and succession management by providing guidance on utilizing evidence-based indicators for leadership potential as an alternative to employee performance and potential ratings. Some of the practical implications to oil and gas and petrochemical companies using employee performance and potential ratings as inputs to the talent pool and leadership potential identification: Leadership development programs and readiness level progress in succession management must be anchored in evidence-based criteria on leadership effectiveness.Inputs to future leader's personal development plans must be aligned to factors contributing to an effective and successful leadership.Leadership potential assessments must be anchored based on evidence-based criteria on successful leadership.
