Abstract

Abstract The Energy Finite Element Analysis (EFEA) offers significant advantages in the areas of model generation, interpretation of results, and definition of design variables for parametric analyses, with respect to the established Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA). A theoretical overview and comparison of the two methods is presented first. A published marine application is analyzed, and comparison of the results offers an initial validation of the EFEA. Numerical models for a fishing boat are generated for both methods and utilized for further comparison between the two formulations. The applicability of the EFEA in the marine field is demonstrated and its benefits are discussed.
