Abstract

Abstract The Moscovian succession in southern Amdrup Land, North Greenland consists of seven, 40–135 m thick, third-order depositional sequences of mixed carbonates, siliciclastics and evaporites. The sequences have sheet-like or wedge-shape geometries and are composed of stacked high frequency sequences with a duration of c. 100 000 years. The Kap Jungersen 2 Sequence delineates an up to 135m thick carbonate platform composed of 10 high frequency sequences. Each individual high frequency sequence shows great lateral facies and thickness variations. In the platform area they are dominated by bioclastic grainstones, Palaeoaplysina -phylloid algae build-ups and bryozoan build-ups. Deposition took place mainly during sea-level highstands; the transgressive systems tracts are generally thin and shaley, and sea-level lowstand led to subaerial exposure and karstification.
