Abstract

Emission of electrons through thin gold film electrodes of a typical thin film electroluminescence structure without the top dielectric allowed for the measuring of their energy distribution. With very thin Au electrodes outer electron energy distributions (EEDs) centred around 11 eV for ZnS and around 8 eV for ZnSe with widths (FWHMs) of about 4 eV have been measured. They do not change much with the thickness of the semiconductor film, nor with the applied voltage (above threshold) but shift with time in the voltage pulse.
